Visualize a mind-bending black hole!😱
The gravity of a black hole is so intense, it distorts its surroundings like a carnival mirror.
Seen nearly edgewise in this visualization, the turbulent disk of gas churning around a black hole takes on a crazy double-humped appearance. The black hole’s extreme gravity alters the paths of light coming from different parts of the disk, producing the warped image. The black hole’s extreme gravitational field redirects and distorts light coming from different parts of the disk, but exactly what we see depends on our viewing angle. The greatest distortion occurs when viewing the system nearly edgewise.
Simulations like this one help us visualize what Einstein meant when he said that gravity warps the fabric of space and time.

🌀Here’s a view of #HurricaneDorian from space.
From 260 miles in altitude, cameras outside the International Space Station (@ISS) captured this view at 11:27 a.m. EDT on Sept. 2 as the storm churned over northwestern Bahamas.
Although gradual weakening is forecast, Dorian is expected to remain a powerful hurricane during the next couple of days while moving on a possible track up the southeastern U.S. seaboard.

А ти спираш ли водата, докато си миеш зъбите? 🤔 Нашето послание е, че дори да живеем в страна, богата на водоизточници, трябва да се замислим за опазването им и за разхищението на вода, което неволно допускаме! 💧💦

NASA joins organizations across the world to celebrate Women’s Equality Day on August 26.
The date was selected to celebrate the Women’s Suffrage Movement’s greatest victory—women’s achievement of full voting rights following the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 1920. The Women’s Equality Day observance not only commemorates the passage of the 19th Amendment, but also represents women’s continuing efforts toward full equality.
